Summary
We aim to develop the spiritual, emotional, social, and intellectual potential of the children in our care, in order to equip them for school and to provide a firm foundation for their future lives. We will provide a strong academic and learning environment for our children, encouraging them to be confident and strong individuals.

Description

Our SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) is Abeedah Khan & Roeina Jan

  • Nursery  practitioners work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other professionals to oversee individual children’s learning programs
  •  The setting takes into consideration the needs of each child
  •  The nursery routine is flexible and can take into account any child’s needs
  •  Children in the setting with identified Special Educational Needs will have an IEP (Individual Educational Plan) in place
  •  Our practitioners can offer some 1 to 1 support for children with Special Educational Needs to access activities as appropriate

Eligibility criteria for your service and any priority groups 
  • Initial assessments of individual children  are carried out by our own practitioners
  • If there are any developmental delays or concerns identified, we will contact and/ or refer to the relevant agencies/professionals.
  • We work with external agencies to support such children with Special Educational Needs
  • We allow all children a flexible settling in process
  • For transitions we have made picture books for our children with Special Educational Needs including activities that they enjoy doing. These books will be passes on to their new schools.

  • We are constantly evaluating our provision using audits.
  • We promote equality and diversity through pictures on display and books of children with disabilities
  • We use routines to support children with Special Educational Needs
  • We have a very flexible settling-in process, we offer parents free sessions until their child is settled
  • We work with the parents closely to ensure the transition into nursery or school is as smooth as possible.
Staff training to support children/young people with SEND 
  • Nursery staff have accessed Makaton training, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Communication in Print training.
  • Our staff are thoroughly equipped to ensure each child’s needs are met.
  • As part of our recruitment process, we ensure all staff are made aware of children’s different needs when they start. 
  • We have other professionals involved such as Speech and Language, Early Years Inclusion Team, Ryegate, and the Autism Team
  • We have 5 pediatric first aiders, the rest have had in-house training on providing any specialist care to the children
  • We received a Quality Mark from AFa for our work with disadvantaged families
Communicating with service users details 
  • We use an online secure platform for children's learning journals, parents are provided with login details and can contribute to their child's journals
  • We have regular parents meetings
  • We share progress with parents when dropping off and collecting their child
  • We have bilingual workers and can usually accommodate parents who have English as an additional language. If not, we arrange for an interpreter.
