50+ Contemporary Dance Sheffield (50+CDS) is an open level contemporary dance group for people aged 50 and over. Sessions run weekly in term time on Wednesdays in Crosspool, Sheffield. This group was set up to offer classes that provide opportunities for dancing and learning with people of similar ages, abilities and mobilities and is open to those with experience and complete beginners.
WHAT IS CONTEMPORARY DANCE? Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres. Similar to ballet, contemporary dance has techniques which are strict and precise however it also stresses versatility and improvisation. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. There is no set music or rhythms, each performer, choreographer or teacher can choose music and sound appropriate to their performance or class sequence.
