Caroline Muttitt, Childminder

Description

My husband Paul Muttitt and I childmind together full time. Before childminding together, we were Foster Carers for 13 children aged 0-10 with Sheffield Social Services.

Our whole family adore young children and we are determined to make their experience with us a positive and exciting one. We have a daughter Kat aged 13, and a son, Nathan aged 18 who works as a Nursery Assistant at Abbeydale Cottage Nursery.

We are committed to working with the whole family, not just the child we look after, which involves offering flexible hours and being there in times of crisis at no extra cost. We have an amazing relationship with all our families, holding regular Saturday coffee mornings, so that those who wish to get involved can get to know one another and make friends. We encourage an open, honest relationship with parents, where they can offer suggestions and freely share any concerns or ideas at any time.

We provide varied and structured activities in line with the Early Year's Foundation Stage framework, which will help children to develop at their own pace, indulge their own interests and stimulate their curiosity, whilst widening their knowledge and experience of the world around them.

The activities we provide include singing, nursery rhymes, reading a variety of educational books and visiting the library, educational games and jigsaws, messy play, art and craft activities, painting, play dough, role play, dressing up, dance and music (making instruments), trips to local parks, toddler groups and soft play areas, country parks, farms and other places of interest.

We go on outings EVERY DAY at no extra cost to parents, including to Matlock Farm, Queens Park and Cliffe Park, Rother Valley, and Longshaw.

WE CAN OFFER THE FREE 15 HOURS CHILDCARE PLACES TO 2, 3 AND 4 YEAR OLD'S. All 3 and 4 year olds are eligible for these, and they can be split between other settings (e.g. nursery/preschool) and childminders who are accredited. We can offer 15 hours per week x 38 weeks (school term time), or 12 hours per week x 47 weeks. We also offer FREE 30 HOURS places, subject to availability.

We do not charge during the holidays for Term-time only children, and have spaces for those who just need care during school holidays.

Private & government childcare vouchers accepted.

If you are interested please call me or email. OUTSTANDING REFERENCES AVAILABLE from current and previous clients.

Notes

We have some experience of children with special needs (especially Autism and Downs Syndrome / speech and language issues) and would be very interested in building on this.

We are seeking families who wish to work with us closely, and are committed to an honest, open, long-term relationship and a desire to see their child thrive in their development.

We are particularly looking for children who will stay with us right up to school.

Local Offer

Description

Paul and I have a breadth of experience of working with babies and children from one day old onwards.

We are committed to meeting children's needs and assisting them to have the same opportunities and experiences.

We work closely with parents in order to ensure that children understand that they are invaluable and can succeed to their full potential. We communicate with them daily, face-to-face and with the use of email, text and the 'Baby's Days' computer package with is extremely comprehensive in sharing information regarding their child's daily activities, assessments and overall development.

We are prepared to consider children with any special needs or disabilities, and undertake additional training if required. We do not have wheelchair access to our house, or downstairs washing or toileting facilities however.

We currently care for a child aged 12 who has Autism. We now consider him an important part of our childminding family and it would not be the same without him. We care for him during weekends, evenings, before and after school and during the holidays. His Mum would be pleased to provide a reference.

We also have a friend who had Downs Syndrome, who we socialise with regularly. We treat all children with Special needs in relation to their individual personality and needs.

I have referred children to speech and language therapy, and supported them with the assistance of a LA therapist, who has come into our home to offer advice and guidence. I have supported a child being assessed by Ryegate Children's Centre, including attending assessments and sharing information. The development of these children has improved considerably whilst in my care, parents have been supported, and I have worked with professional guidance.

Eligibility criteria for your service and any priority groups

Being able to fit in with the age range and needs of the children we currently care for.

If parents find it difficult to access our service for whatever reason, we will do the best we can to help - e.g. collecting and dropping off from home.

In terms of FEL, 'looked after' children (those in Local Authority Care) and adopted children must have first priority - in line with local government guidelines.

We are particularly interested in caring for children with special needs and those who benefit from 2-Year FEL.

Parents can access this system at any time and add comments or questions.

It is very simple to use, and training can be made available if required.

We hold regular coffee mornings so that ourselves and parents can get to know each other better and build up positive connections.
