Communication Group

“Communicate” is a new children’s project for children with learning disabilities, at Sheffield Mencap and Gateway. Speech therapy is a finite resource for many children with learning and/or communication difficulties and I understand that this is a great frustration to many parents. Thus, this project is designed to provide activities for children with learning difficulties that work on speech and language therapy principles, within a fun and relaxed setting. The group will be run by speech and language therapy students from Sheffield University and will also have oversight from two experienced and specialist speech and language therapists. We will strive to identify the communication needs of each child separately, to create activities tailored to each child as well as providing group activities.
