Part of Sheffield City Council. Responsible for ensuring that privately let accommodation in the city meets reasonable health and safety and management standards. Advises landlords and tenants on standards and has legal powers to instruct landlords to improve and repair their properties. Officers also have powers to prosecute landlords to enforce legal standards.
Tenancy Relations Officers provide advice to landlords and tenants about tenancy rights and obligations. They also have powers to prosecute landlords for illegal eviction and harassment.
The service advises on standards for houses in multiple occupation and provides the mandatory licensing of certain houses of multiple occupancy (HMO) which applies to most houses where 5 or more occupants live on 3 or more floors and share a bathroom or kitchen. Promotes good standards and management across all types of lettings.
The service is responsible for licensing properties in the Page Hall area of the city.
The service also deals with nuisance associated with empty properties such as rubbish that could cause vermin or disrepair causing damage to another property.
