Sheffield and District Family History Society

Summary
We meet on the 3rd Monday in the month 7.30-9.00pm. at Cemetery Road Baptist Church. Since its beginning the Society has been promoting the study of local, social and family history in the area, for the benefit and education of the public; help is on hand. The Society has a library held at Sheffield Archives, and a Speaker is present at our monthly meetings, details of which are below -

Description

As a direct result of the Covid19 situation we have had to cancel all our Speaker meetings and, until the situation is under control, we cannot move forwards.  However, in anticipation of some resolution, we are arranging a day trip, by coach, to the National Memorial Arboretum, at Alrewas, in June/July 2021.

Whilst the military aspect of the NMA is obvious, there are also gardens dedicated to pre/neonatal deaths, the Home Front, Bevan Boys, the Burma Railway and much more.  Details may be found on the website:

https://www.thenma.org.uk/visit-us/what's-here/the-memorials/list-of-memorials

For those who find walking difficult, there is a road train which goes around the site providing a commentary on the various memorials; it is fairly inexpensive.  The NMA itself is free, so the price for the day will be approximately £12 per person, which is certainly good value.

If you would like to join the trip, please contact the S&DFHS Secretary:   carole.eales@talktalk.net
