Lost Chord is a registered charity that organises interactive musical sessions for people struggling with dementia in residential homes and day care centres throughout South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire, as well as Cardiff, Coventry, Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich.
Highly trained professional musicians perform a variety of musical styles in an effort to stimulate response from those who can't walk, talk, feed themselves or communicate in any way. Residents are encouraged to sing, sway, dance or play percussion. Music is often the only way to stimulate a response from one of the most disadvantaged groups in the community. The activities give people with dementia a vehicle through which they can continue to communicate.
Lost Chord also gives one day training sessions on the impact of music on people with dementia and its importance in the future care of people with dementia both in residential care and out in the community.
