Creative writing peer group for adults. We meet at Stannington Library on the the 1st Saturday of the month from 1pm - 3pm. Cost £3 first meeting free.
We are a group encouraging would be writers and authors to get together to discuss their work and obtain peer critique. Open to all genres & experience levels.
Our purpose is to provide somewhere that writers can discuss ideas, write, give and receive peer critique and provide support for each other. The current members of the group are largely unpublished, but some will hopefully become successful authors. Some of the members do not wish to be published simply wishing to improve their skills for their own benefit.
So far we have self-published 3 anthologies of our own and jointly published another with Ecclesfield Library Creative Writers Group to raise funds for the library.
Typically, the meeting opens with a writing exercise. As well as providing an ice-breaker, this means that every member should leave having written something. Sometimes the exercises form the germ of an idea to take forward after the group has finished. Often the exercises cover particular elements of writing technique or different genres to give writers a taste of something outside of their normal genre.
We have an email address to keep in touch between meetings. Members can use the emailing group to distribute their work for critique in advance of the meeting or the group administrator can distribute it, anonymously if required,to allow for a more comprehensive critique of the work than the time available in the actual meeting permits.
If you are interested in becoming a member please feel free to just turn up on the night. There is no joining fee or standard to meet. We charge £3 per session and this includes a drink and a biscuit, all proceeds go to the library funds.
