Sheffield City Opera

Description

The production is in essence a “Juke-Box Opera”. We created an original story. Then chose operatic arias and choruses and breathed new life into them. Look forward to muscular music by Verdi, Bizet, Puccini, Donizetti, Mascagni, Mozart and others, with some original music by SCO Musical Director, Robert Webb. The opera is witty, contemporary and staged in modern dress. It will be sung in English with traditional libretto and some re-setting of words. It will be staged on 2nd, 3rd and 4th November 2017 at High Storrs School.

The opera will be mounted as a discrete one-off project and chorus members will be asked to pay a fee of £40 (including membership fee of £15) to take part.

As well as six main principal roles, there are numerous smaller parts and plenty of work for the chorus. Rehearsals will take place on some Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons from early June with a break during the school summer holidays. We are aware that some singers will have existing commitments on Wednesday evenings, and will try to work around this.
