Nomad Opening Doors - SmartSteps

Nomad Opening Doors SmartSteps programme helps single people aged 18-35 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to move into shared private rented accommodation.

We work closely with landlords to place clients in suitable shared properties, and we ensure that clients receive support to sustain their tenancies.

SmartSteps is for people who are not entitled to emergency housing from the council. Our clients are not owed a housing duty and so have no option other than to rent privately.

How can SmartSteps help me?
There are 2 routes into shared accommodation on offer within our programme. The level of support you need will determine which route is best for you. We will carry out an assessment and from there we will decide with you the best way forward.

Everyone has to attend pre-tenancy training before being offered a property.

Route 1: Two person shared houses. We work with a housing association to provide two-bed shared houses for people who need a little support before they move into private rented.
Route 2: We work with private landlords to find long term homes for people in shared privately rented accommodation.

All staff have enhanced DBS checks.
Self or any agency referral.

Knowle House, 4 Norfolk Park Road  (NB: main entrance near corner of East Bank Road)
Sheffield S2 3QE

The entrance to the drive for Knowle House is at the corner of East Bank Road and Norfolk Park Road [please see map].

Drivers: Turn off Queens Road up Duchess Road, which passes between the Casino and B&Q. This bears right into East Bank Road. Take your first left, on to the bottom of Norfolk Park Road. Immediately on your right, before passing under the tramway bridge, is a short drive [shown on the map], with a small Lodge House just inside the turning.  Continue up the drive until you see Knowle House. There should be parking in the car park to the left of the drive, just before the main building. If not there is another small car park next to the Lodge House back down the drive.

Disabled Parking: There is limited space for parking close to the main building at the top of the drive – you reach the drive via the bottom gates only. Please ring the number above to make arrangements to use this, or if you need any assistance.

Buses: There are a number of services that operate from the City Centre, Sheffield Interchange and Sheffield Train Station to both Queens Road and Granville Road. Please see or call us for more information.

Tram: The Park Grange Croft tram stop is marked on the map – from town, it is the stop after Sheffield College on the BLUE line. On leaving the tram, if the top gates for Knowle House are not open, walk downhill until you see the bottom gates for Knowle House on your left, before East Bank Road.
