Dancing in the City is a community of people who practice conscious dance, 5 Rhythms, Movement Medicine and Open Floor. Conscious dance is an exploration into awareness and thus the dance space is a drug and alcohol free space. Beginners are welcome, there are no steps to learn and the sessions are facilitated by a qualified teacher.
Dancing in the City was set up in 1996, its original aim was to provide opportunities to dance 5 Rhythms regularly and to promote the practice. The main activity of the group is dancing on Friday nights at the Hillsborough Park Bowling Green Pavilion, Sheffield. The space has a wooden floor with wooden panelling and windows on three sides overlooking the park. There is no joining fee, you pay on the night and there is a sliding scale. We organise taught and practice sessions. Taught sessions are facilitated by a qualified teacher. Sheffield 5 Rhthyms teacher Sarah Blagg and Movement Medicine teacher Mark Boylan teacher regularly and we have guest teachers. The practice sessions follow the 5 Rhythms map and the DJs are experienced DiC dancers. Practice sessions are for dancer familiar with 5 Rhythms. The minimum requirement is to have attended three evenings with a trained teacher. See our programme of events on our website.
