Burton’s Restaurant is owned by The Burton Street Foundation, a charitable organisation based in Hillsborough. It is a social enterprise combining two purposes – to serve you fantastic, locally-sourced food at affordable prices and to provide training and volunteering opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and those on the autistic spectrum.
At Burton’s you will be looked after by experienced and knowledgeable professional chefs and front of house staff assisted by a dedicated team of volunteers.
To support the foundations commitment to healthy eating the restaurant runs an accredited training course for volunteers – Skills for Working Life – based around their catering enterprises, which include Burton's Restaurant, the Training Restaurant and Burton's Undercroft Cafe.
Volunteers with learning disabilities work in every aspect of the catering department, this provides not only valuable and meaningful work experience, but also promotes healthy eating and the value of a good diet. Participants can gain awards in Food Hygiene, Moving and Handling and Health & Fire Safety, as well as learning new skills, increasing self confidence and gaining a wealth of real-world work experience.
