What is DMP?
Dance Movement Psychotherapy understands that the movements we make are an expressive and non-verbal means of communication. DMP is a creative process in which client/s and therapist engage in empathic reflections whilst using body movement and dance to assist in the integration of emotional, cognitive, physical and social aspects of self. It can also help for example in:
Developing body awareness;
Learning through the senses;
Developing a stronger sense of self.
Who is it for?
DMP is for children and adults of all ages and abilities. Clients to not need any prior dance movement skills to take part. I can work with people who experience anxiety, depression, eating disorders, psychoses, bereavement, post-traumatic stress, abuse, addiction, learning difficulties, sensory difficulties, physical disabilities, emotional / behavioral difficulties and autism. DMP can benefit individuals, couples, families, groups and organisational teams. DMP may be recommended as a primary service or as a complement to other forms of on-going treatment, rehabilitation or education. The therapy can be short or long term and can take part in settings within the public, private and voluntary sectors including health, education and social services.
