Stannington Tenants and Residents Association

Summary
Volunteer led organisation supported by Stannington residents levy to improve the Stannington Council Estate Area.

Description

Stannington Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) is a committee of volunteers working with the Council and other third parties to improve the Stannington Council Estate Area. We can act as a focal point for local tenants and residents to bring their concerns, in areas such as graffitti, rubbish and nuisance, which we can raise with the Council on the area's behalf. We also represent the area at the Area Housing Forum meetings.

We arrange four day trips by coach each year, a summer trip to the seaside and a winter trips to a Christmas markets. Tickets can be bought from the TARA office and cost £8 per adult and £5 per child.

This summer's trips are 2nd July to Bakewell Market and Skegness on the 8th August.

Please go to our Facebook page to see other events we are running.

We can apply for area improvement grants from places like the Council and the National Lottery Fund, to make improvements in the area or hold activities and events. We also donate money to other organisations to help them fund their activities and events to help the community, such as a regular grant to STAND who operate the volunteer run associate library.

TARA activities include:

  • The purchase and installation of the children's trim trail, play equipment and picnic benches in the play area on Long Lane.
  • Purchasing and installation of most of the litter bins in Stannington Estate
  • Canvasing for the removal of dumped rubbish in the Stannington Estate area
  • Purchasing of plants for some of the public areas of the Estate
  • Canvasing for the painting of hand rails on the Stannington Estate
  • Arranging for new handrails to be fitted, to improve safety, in the Fairbarn area
  • Canvasing for the replacement of the bus shelter on Liberty Hill

The Committee is elected at the AGM in February, this year's AGM is 27th February 2018, midday at the Hall Park Community Centre. All welcome.

If you have any issues you wish to raise or you wish to be involved in the TARA activities, please either visit the TARA office during opening hours, email us at StanningtonTARA@btinternet.com or call 0114 233 2243 and leave a message on the answer phone if we are not in the office.
