Description

Thank Gateway It's Friday £3.00 per session

Thank Gateway It’s Friday is a youth group for individuals with a learning disability aged between 6 and 15 years old. It is an opportunity to meet in a safe and supervised setting whilst having lots of fun. The group is open for both young people with a learning disability and their siblings. TGIF is both person-centred and family-centred taking each child’s preferences and support needs into account. TGIF provides a mix of activities including sports, cooking and arts/ crafts. The group runs from 6:30pm until 8:30pm and costs £2.50 per session.

Shine Out on Saturdays Cost = £3.00 per session

Shine Out on Saturdays is a performing arts project aimed at children and young people with learning disabilities. It uses drama, dance and art as a tool to develop self-confidence and social skills. It also provides a great opportunity for young people with learning disabilities to belong to a group that contains like-minded individuals who have the same interest. The project aims to provide an environment that encourages creativity in a positive and safe atmosphere, in which the young people feel that their voice matters.

Shine Out on Saturdays has a user-led ethos, giving the members a sense of ownership. The ideas that the members generate are used to steer the direction and subject matter of the workshops, helping to promote independence skills. This is especially significant, as choice and control have been identified as lacking in the lives of people with learning disabilities. The project runs on a Saturday from 10.00am till 12.30pm.

The first hour of the project is dedicated to drama and movement, and focuses on working alongside the young people in order to develop ideas around subject matters that are of interest to them. The members then have a half hour break; they can either relax in the coffee bar with their friends or play snooker. The last hour is then spent in the art room, which generally facilitates what the young people have been working on in drama.

Special Needs Inclusion Play Scheme (SNIPS)

SNIPS is a unique, person centred service for children and young people which provides a fun and safe environment for individuals to get involved in different activities. The service is held at Norfolk Lodge but all referrals need to go through Sheffield City Council. The service is able to provide one to one support if needed. Activities include art, sport, cooking and pottery, music and team games. The services runs on Saturdays and during the school holidays.
