Sheffield Community Choir
The Choir (SCC) was formed by Janine Dyer the choirs' director in 2013. Janine is a gospel singer who discovered her gift at an early age and gain experience through singing in her Pentecostal church. Janine has a strong passion to sing and share the joy gospel music brings with people all over the world.
Janine has lived in South Yorkshire for the past 15 years + after moving to the region from London. She really missed singing on choirs in London and wanted somehow to bring and share her musical abilities within her new community. Through research she identified that there wasn't a gospel style choir in the South Yorkshire Community, feedback showed that it was something people wanted in the area, hence her decision (with encouragement and support from family and friends) to start SCC. Christ Church Pitsmoor kindly offered to provide us with a place to rehearse for the first 5 years. As the choir has grown we have had to move to larger premises, so our new home is Handsworth Methodist Church.
SCC is open to all people of all races and backgrounds, with or without musical/singing experience. As the years have gone by the choir has worked together and have grown from strength to strength. The choir is a great social outlet where members have forged new strong friendships. At SCC we are a fun loving bunch of people who love to sing, in fact we have become a tight family unit.
We have sung at many events in and around Sheffield and surrounding areas. Gospel music is a very important part of our repertoire we are proud to sing the message of God's love and peace to people, especially in such dark uncertain times. It's good to have a positive message, most music these days does the opposite. People often comment on "how uplifted and blessed they feel after hearing us sing".
