We aim to offer courses that learners want and understand that everyone has their own reasons for joining a class. We will try to help whether you are looking for qualifications to improve your job prospects or are looking for a new interest and to meet new people. We offer adult learning in the college here at Birley and also in the local community and Woodhouse.


Description

Birley Adult Learning supports adult learning in the South East of Sheffield. Courses funded by Lifelong Learning Skills and Communities are offered in the evenings at The Birley Academy and in community venues during the day.

Birley Adult Learning aims to engage adults in learning whether they are looking for a qualification, seeking to widen their interests or wanting to enjoy the social side of learning. Courses are organised into 3 ten week blocks based around school terms, daytime courses are timed to accommodate those who have children to take to and collect from school.

Courses on offer include: Computers for Everyone; students gain confidence learning at their own pace in a friendly, relaxed class with tutor support. Suitable for beginners and students with some experience using a computer. Learners can work towards an ITQ which covers popular software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. This is a recognised level 1 qualification assessed on learner coursework.

Basic Web Page Design; suitable for beginners this course offers an introduction to the language used for creating your own website.

Literacy and numeracy; small and friendly classes where students learn at their own pace from entry level to level 2. These courses are free. 

Spanish; friendly conversation classes. Become more familiar with written Spanish and everyday phrases

Digital Imaging; improving photographs and creating digital art using Adobe Photoshop

Yoga, friendly and welcoming class suitable for men and women of all abilities

Prices: All courses are local authority funded.  Classes have an administration fee of £10 plus tuition fees of £2.50 per hour.  If you receive a means tested benefit then a class is £10 for 10 weeks. All Numeracy and Literacy classes are free.
