Osteoporosis 2000 is a registered charity that provides support and information for those suffering from osteoporosis or for those concerned about this bone disease (see separate entry). One in two women and one in five men over the age of fifty will break a bone due to osteoporosis. The charity has a call in centre and runs exercise programme at community venues across the city offering general exercise routines for those affected by osteoporosis or those who would like to maintain bone strength. Classes are particularly suitable for the over fifties, including people with restricted mobility due to osteoporosis, arthritis, rheumatism or just advancing years. The charity also operates a number of Falls Prevention classes.
