Creative writing group for adults. We meet at Ecclesfield Library on the first Wednesday of the month from 6pm - 8pm. Cost £3
If you are interested in becoming a member please feel free to just turn up on the night. There is no joining fee or standard to meet. We charge £3 per session and this includes a drink and a biscuit, all proceeds go to the library funds. We welcome writers of all genres and abilities. New members are always welcome.
Our purpose is to provide somewhere that writers can discuss ideas, write, give and receive peer critique and provide support for each other. The current members of the group are largely unpublished, but some will hopefully become successful authors. Some of the members do not wish to be published simply wishing to improve their skills for their own benefit.
The group has been running since September 2016, so far we have self-published our own anthology and jointly published a Christmas anthology with Stannington Library Creative Writer's Group
Typically, the meeting opens with a writing exercise. As well as providing an ice-breaker, this means that every member should leave having written something. Sometimes the exercises form the germ of an idea to take forward after the group has finished. Often the exercises cover particular elements of writing technique or different genres to give writers a taste of something outside of their normal genre.
We have an email address to keep in touch between meetings. Members can use the emailing group to distribute their work for critique in advance of the meeting or the group administrator can distribute it, anonymously if required,to allow for a more comprehensive critique of the work than the time available in the actual meeting permits.
