A Second Free Special School Approved for Sheffield

Published On: 13/03/2019

Another Free Special School has been approved in Sheffield. This second new special school will be key part of increasing the city’s specialist provision to meet the current and future levels of demand.

The first new school, sponsored by Nexus Multi-Academy Trust, is now in development and is due to open in 2020/21.  It will have 80 places and will located on the former Norfolk Park Special School site, close to the city centre.

The new school will also have 80 places and will complement the first. Both schools will cater for children with complex communication and interaction and social, emotional and mental health needs. One will focus on children whose needs lead to outward, behavioural issues and the other will support those whose needs are more inward-facing, around anxiety.

The two new schools are also part of joint working with neighbouring councils in South Yorkshire to broaden the offer to families of children with SEND.
