Since the 0-25 SEND Reforms came into force in September 2015 my teams have been working extremely hard to implement these changes, improve our working relationship with parents and improve the quality of our plans.
SEN services are much in demand, this school year alone we took forward 298 statutory assessments more than in the previous year. We issued 680 Final Education Health and Care Plans, a quarter of these within 20 weeks and we held more than 600 multi-agency meetings. As well as completing this large volume of work parents have also spoken positively about the way this work is being done, particularly noting our person centred approach and the focus on young people’s strengths and aspirations.
However, we know there are things we need to improve so that we are consistently meeting children’s needs and meeting statutory timescales in every single case. We would like to reassure parents that we are doing all we can to make this happen, including investing in more capacity within the SEN team and working more closely with schools and other services. The additional SEN workforce in particular will focus on finalising these outstanding plans and ensuring new requests for assessment are completed on time.
If you would like to discuss your son or daughter’s plan with a member of SEN Team please contact 0114 2736394.
