Sheffield SEND Local Area Inspection Update

Published On: 06/11/2018

Inspectors from OFSTED and the Care Quality Commission have visited Sheffield this week (12-16 November 2018) to conduct an inspection of the Local Area’s effectiveness in identifying and meeting the needs of children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

They have conducted 20 focus groups and visited 12 settings. They have met with children, young people, parents and carers as well as providers and professionals from across Education, Health and Care.

They investigated three areas:

  • the effectiveness of the local area in identifying children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities
  • the effectiveness of the local area in assessing and meeting the needs of children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities
  • the effectiveness of the local area in improving outcomes for children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities

It has been a tough and rigorous process which will help us to continue to drive our future improvement for children and young people with SEND and we are grateful to inspectors for their feedback.

We would like to thank all the children, young people and their families, as well as professionals from across Education, Health and Care in the Local Area for their contributions to the inspection.

As with all inspections the outcome is confidential until the report is published. We expect this to be in late December or early January 2019.
