River Stewardship Company is a social enterprise that offers a maintenance and management service for the waterways around the greater Yorkshire area. Through our Riverlution programme we run volunteer days on the Lower Don Valley every Tuesday that everyone is welcome to come along to.
River Stewardship Company works to improve the waterways for people and wildlife in and around Sheffield, creating better waterways for people, places and wildlife.
Our work with people encompasses weekly volunteer sessions that we run alongside local groups. We work with volunteer days to clear and manage the riverbank from litter and debris, invasive plants and vegetation and clear footpaths, both as a benefit to wildlife and to enhance and promote use of our local rivers. Everyone is welcome to join us and we provide all equipment and training.
Currently, we have fortnightly sessions in Sheffield on a Tuesday on the Lower Don Valley (Wicker Arches to Meadowhall). We also work together with Friends of the Blue Loop who run a weekly session, alternating between the river and the canal, on a Wednesday. Everyone is welcome and we can provide records of attendance to facilitate future employment. We also help advertise other partner volunteer events through our volunteer calendar.
