Birley Community Pre-School

We are a charity run "not for profit" Preschool.


We are a "not for profit" registered Charity based at St. Cyprians Church Hall, Birchvale Road, Sheffield, S12 4XY. We pride ourselves on good quality childcare and education. We have a caring and professional staff team of Early Educators who are all qualified to level 3 or above.

You and your child will always be greeted by the same staff team each day to foster good relationships and give you consistency of care. We take children from 6 months to 4 years 11 months. 

We provide places for the 15 hours funded entitlement for 2 year olds.  We also provide places for the funded 15 hours 3 and 4 year olds as well as the extended 15 hours funded entitlement, making 30 hours for children of working parents.

On our last Ofsted Inspection we were graded as "Outstanding". 

We cater for children from 6 months to 4 years 11 months.

Birley Pre-School is based at St. Cyprian's Commiyt Hall on Birchvale Road. The hall has recently had an amazing £75,000.00 refurbishment in order for our preschool to run its service. We have sole use of the building whilst we are open and we have also spent £20,000.00 on upgrading the outdoor space which is now fully enclosed and resurfaces with an outdoor learning cabin.

Our day is broken down into 6 sessions so that you can attend for the length of time you require rather than a whole day/Morning/afternoon. For example you can attend 8.00 - 11.30am or 12.30 - 4.00pm or 9.00 - 3.00pm or 8.00 - 5.00pm a combination that suits you.

We are a registered charity and therefore do not make a profit. We aim to provide the falilies and children who use our services good quality care in a calm, friendly and welcoming environment where children can explore, expreiment and thrive under the care of experienced and long standing staff who have extensive childcare knowledge and experience.

At birley preschool we have very experienced staff that are able to support all children and there indivual needs. We work very closely with the speech therapy service in sheffield and the autism team. All staff are makaton trained and we continually keep this up to date. As a setting we have worked with the hearing impairment service and teachers for the deaf.

Eligibility criteria for your service and any priority groups 

We take children with special educational needs and disabilities providing our setting can meet their needs. This is always assessed on an indiviual basis with parents, ourselves and other professionals.

Whilst we have a waiting list when full, we will always try to accomodate a child who has SEND as soon as possible. We also look at families and their situations individually and provide the best help we can for them and their children.

We providfe staff to a rota of 1 -3 for children under 2 years old.     1 - 4 for children 2 years - 3 years old.    1 - 8 for children 3 years - 4 years 11 months

Staff training to support children/young people with SEND 

Our staff undergo various training each year including a variety of training sessions for various disbilities and SEND. All staff have safeguarding training and all hold a Paediatric First Aid certifiate.   All staff use Makaton signing in session with all children. As a staff team we have undergone Epi-pen training, Sheffield Talking training sessions. We have worked with the Autism and inclusion team, Hearing support services and also Vision support.

We pride ourselves on having good communcation with parents/carers. This is acheived in variety of ways. We speask to individual parents/careres on a dialy basis as well as holding parent/carer evening with key workers. We also send out information, newsletters etc on a regular basis.
