- Description: Landmarks is proud to deliver high-quality specialist education and support that aims to maximise our learner’s life opportunities. Landmarks has a proud reputation of designing individualised education and support programmes for young people with additional needs, supporting them to achieve their life goals be that employment, higher education and/or day services. We aim to ensure that our learners’ lives are impacted positively as a result of learning at Landmarks. Learners applying with an EHCP will be invited for a personalised assessment day at the Landmarks site of their choice. This gives them the opportunity to experience College life allowing our Assessment Team to discuss whether an individuals needs can be met and which Pathway is most suitable. Our curriculum is mostly practical enabling us to provide education in environments that require learners to be good workers, undertake real jobs and learn what the world of work is like and how rewarding doing a good job can be. We believe learners engage more if they are placed in control of activities, not watching from a side-line. This control helps learners to develop a series of life skills: independence, self-reliance, choice-making and communication. So, you will see our learners running our farm, pub, bistro, online shops and market stalls. We also believe these are far more interesting because our learner engagement is outstanding. Learners at Landmarks also benefit from integrated Speech & Language and Occupational Therapists who work closely with staff, learners and their families to ensure maximum impact from learning at Landmarks. Landmarks works across the East Midlands, South Yorkshire and beyond, taking education into our learner’s home communities because it is important that they learn how to access the community they are going to live in, not the one next to the College. It is vital because learners can then begin to create productive adult lives by accessing their community facilities such as gyms, clubs, pubs, libraries and activity centres. We offer two main Pathways which we feel frame learner programmes of study well: Developing Independence allows our learners to realise their potential by becoming as independent as possible. We work closely with learners, families, support services, therapists and tutors to determine what independence skills we need to focus on to prepare learners for their next stage in life. This includes improving communication, travelling on the bus, taking care of themselves at the home, managing money, making friends - creating a week’s worth of activities meaning they aren’t sitting at home too much when they leave. Learners also benefit from this Pathway by having the chance to achieve qualifications in Functional Skills, Employability Skills and Skills for Working Life. Employability offers learners the opportunity to work in real working environments, with real employers so that they can develop a true understanding of what work involves. We also provide opportunities for learners to develop their vocational knowledge and skills so that they can focus on accessing certain sectors: animal studies, horticulture, hospitality and catering to name a few.   Placements are supported by job coaches who will help the learners to become independent and work to industry standards.  Alongside their work placements, learners will have the chance to achieve their maths, English, ICT and other relevant vocational qualifications that they wish to complete. If you want a job, you need to decide what you really like doing or know what you want to do – then this is the Pathway for you. We have our own dedicated recruitment agency, called WayFinder who works with you all the way and our success rate is much higher than the national average year on year. Landmarks are so keen you stay at work, you can come back to us for up to five years after leaving if there is a problem at work. We will work with you to help resolve issues or secure further employment.
