Midhurst Road Residential Home
As a local charity, Sheffcare supports over 1,000 older people every year in nine homes across Sheffield. Our work is guided by our values: Kindness, Dignity, Respect, Independence, and Choices. We want everyone we support to enjoy a good day, every day.
At Midhurst we have a really dedicated staff team, they put the residents first and treat them like family. Everyone works here because they love looking after people.
We’re all proud of our reputation, any body you ask will tell you it’s a great place home: District Nurses, GPs will refer people to us because they like the home and they know that our residents are happy and well cared for. The staff are happy, they know our residents very well, and they’ll accommodate their needs at all times. People comment on our lovely and friendly staff, they see them being respectful to residents and giving excellent care.
We’ve got 54 bedrooms, all en-suite, some with lovely views of our gardens and over the countryside. All our communal rooms have been redecorated, the lounges have 60 inch TVs, with comfy chairs and bay windows. We’ve got a purpose built conservatory. It’s got a Piano if anyone’s got musical talent. We have regular entertainment and we have people in to run physical activity sessions and movement to music which helps with health and mobility.
The food is good; we have 3 cooks who offer a wide range of diets and we cater for birthday parties and celebrations in the conservatory. It’s good home cooked food, Julie our senior cook meets with residents regularly and walks around every day to see if people enjoyed their food. Residents can have whatever they want; families bring in treats and snacks and we always have cakes, tea, biscuits, fruit and crisps on offer. When residents want something we can usually get it. Residents can have a drink; some residents have fridges in their rooms where they keep their own beers. Events usually have a drinks trolley.
There’s always something going on, this morning it’s been baking, it could be quizzes, music and movement activities, gardening: we’ve got a lovely garden. We got out on trips, out for meals, out into the countryside for walks, Meadowhall for shopping. We have a hairdresser in once a week.
Families can feel apprehensive about leaving their loved ones. I’d tell them don’t worry, we’ll look after them, you can come and visit whenever you want, any time of day, with no restrictions. It’s consistent here, there’s always someone here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. There’s never a time when you’re on your own, but people can also stay in their own rooms, enjoy their privacy, have their meals in their rooms if they want to.
The home is lovely and fresh and clean. We do the housework for you - but you can help if you want.
We also provide respite care.
