The Sheffield Circle of Magicians

Founded on May 18 1920, Sheffield Circle of Magicians is one of the oldest magic societies in the world. We’re here to promote and grow the art of magic in Sheffield, providing a social space for magicians across South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire to share techniques and tricks.

Advancing magic in Sheffield
As well as serving as a network for local magicians to get together and talk all things magic, Sheffield Circle of Magicians runs an annual syllabus of members-only themed meetings and guest lectures. We’re serious about advancing the skills of our members, and have previously enjoyed lectures from some of the most talented magicians in the world, including Shoot Ogawa, Andi Gladwin and Roddy McGhie. While most events are members-only, we also host a number of evenings where members of the public are welcome.

Join the Sheffield Circle of Magicians
To join the Circle, use the Contact form to get in touch with our Secretary, Pete Hammond. After a (very informal!) interview, you’ll be invited to audition. It’s not all about how good you are now – after all, the Circle exists to help magicians grow – but we do need to see that you’re serious about the craft. We are a very friendly society, with members ranging in age from 18 to 80 – all are welcome.

We meet on the first Thursday of every month at Magick Enterprises on Broad Street in Sheffield, one of the best independent magic dealers in the country, and one of the few remaining ‘bricks and mortar’ magic shops in the UK. It’s a great place to visit for anyone wanting to learn magic. You’ll find many of us there on a Saturday afternoon, drinking tea, eating biscuits, jamming new tricks and performing magic for customers. If you want to meet like-minded people and find out what magic in Sheffield is all about before joining the Circle, pop into Magick Enterprises on a Saturday afternoon.
