Hello! My name is James and I am a professional piano teacher based in Sheffield, offering piano lessons to students from beginner levels upwards. Prior to moving to Sheffield, I studied music at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where I completed the Certificate of Teaching (CTABRSM) award in instrumental teaching. These qualifications, combined with many years teaching experience, enables me to create courses of lessons that are ideally suited to each one of my students.

I cover a wide range of different musical genres, including both classical and contemporary styles, welcoming students of all ages to come to lessons held at my dedicated teaching space located in the centre of Sheffield. I teach students from the age of 6 upwards, including many adult learners - especially those who have never played the piano before. I also have a lot of experience helping individuals who have previously played the piano, but have taken a long break to return to playing the piano. Always keen to ensure that my lessons are fun and engaging I work hard to help motivate my students to practice between lessons by setting out clear practice schedules for each pupil I teach. This is especially effective for students who have a limited time to practice during the week.

Alongside my work as a music teacher I also regularly perform as a pianist, both for weddings and corporate events held by the University of Sheffield.
