Lydgate Junior School
We are a mainstream school for children aged 7 to 11. As a large school, with around 480 pupils, we are organised into four year groups each with four classes.
The pupils have a very wide range of abilities, many achieving well above national expectations for their age on entry and exit and a few well below expected levels.
Attainment overall is well above local and national averages and has been for many years.
We have pupils with more than twenty different first languages and around 30% from an ethnic minority background.
We provide over 250 hours each week of teaching assistant support for children so that each child, no matter what their need, can learn at a good rate.
We make additional provision for children with needs related to phonics development, English as an additional language (EAL), behaviour and social interaction, on a regular basis due to the needs of our intake. Other, less common, needs are met as they occur. Sme children may access alternative provision, off-site, for some of their regualr school week.
Music and other arts are a strong feature and tradition in our school. The breadth and quality of the curriculum is recognised as a strenght of the school.
