Shared Lives Sheffield - Adult Family Placement
Shared Lives provides family-based care to adults in the community who need support and do not want residential care. The primary aims of the service are to enable people to remain in the community, to promote choice, independence and social inclusion and to improve the quality of their life.
Sheffield City Council's Shared Lives scheme was set up in 1982 and is one of many similar services run by Local Authorities and Voluntary Agencies throughout the country.
Many of these services are affiliated to the national organisation Shared Lives Plus. Shared Lives Plus works alongside Social Care and Voluntary Sector to provide an invaluable source of information and guidance both nationally and regionally to services and approved carers.
Shared Lives can be used to:
Support people who are caring for dependent relatives or friends by providing periods of short breaks to the person they are caring for so that they are able to continue caring for that person in the community.
Provide Long term care in the homes of registered Shared Lives Carers
Provide short term or emergency short breaks care
Provide daycare
Shared Lives Sheffield is registered with the Care Quality Commission and all our carers are trained, regularly monitored, reviewed and supported by the scheme.
