Sheffield Growing Experience

Growing Experience is based at Sheffield Organic Growers.

We provide people with learning disabilities the opportunity to work as a supported volunteer on our 20-acre site, where we grow fruit, vegetables and flowers.

We offer the chance to learn skills in a real work environment, to gain valuable work experience (in preparation for a job) or to further a leisure interest in growing your own food or flowers.

We do a variety of work, all tailored to the experience, interests, strengths and needs of our supported volunteers.

The work can include: gardening inside a polytunnel, weeding, planting seedlings, harvesting and sorting apples, picking soft fruit (eg. blackcurrants), planting and picking flowers etc.

We are open to people aged 16 (year 12 and above) to 65.

Additional information

Growing experience is specifically aimed at young people and adults with learning disabilities, who may also have Down Syndrome or be Autistic. We work in small groups,  usually between 1 and 4 service users.  Unfortunately we can't provide 1:1 and we can't provide a service to people who don't have learning disablities.
