The Adventure Service - day service and short break provider in Chesterfield
Day service
Welcome to The Adventure Service, where we champion accessibility and the great outdoors while nurturing personal growth for individuals with learning disabilities. With locations in Top Valley, Mansfield Woodhouse, and Chesterfield, we're dedicated to empowering individuals to reach their full potential through expert guidance and unwavering support.
Our approach is unique, focusing on more than just the adventure itself. We believe in developing skills that transcend the outdoor experience, enriching your life in countless ways. Take, for example, our cooking sessions where you'll master the art of preparing and cooking a meal over an open fire. Not only does this provide practical skills for independent living, but it also fosters a sense of accomplishment and self-sufficiency.
In addition to outdoor activities, our group volunteering initiatives offer valuable insights into teamwork and the dynamics of working life. Through these experiences, our Adventurers develop crucial social and communication skills that are applicable in various aspects of life.
At The Adventure Service, each Adventurer benefits from personalized learning plans and person-centered planning. This ensures that goals are not only achievable but also tailored to individual aspirations, fostering a sense of ownership and motivation.
When it comes to transportation and equipment, we've got you covered. While you arrange transportation to and from your chosen center, we provide all the specialized equipment necessary for your adventure. However, we recommend bringing along walking boots, a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, and a day sack for your personal comfort and safety during your outdoor journey.
What we get up to:
Adult short breaks
Throughout the year we have numerous short break weekends across the Peak District, each offering a unique and enriching experience.
Our weekend breaks run from Friday evening to Sunday evening, with convenient transport available from all three of our centres.
Accommodation is provided in comfortable dormitory-style settings, where everyone is encouraged to contribute to daily tasks such as food preparation and cleaning. This not only fosters a sense of responsibility but also helps build practical life skills in a real-world setting.
A Weekend Full of Adventure:
Each of our Adult Short Breaks is themed around the activities that we offer in the day service. This includes paddle sports, climbing, caving, hill walking, target sports and so on.
Our Short Breaks are open to adults with additional support needs. This provides a fantastic opportunity to socialise, try new activities, and build friendships, all while giving parents and carers a well-deserved weekend of respite.
