Foresteers Outdoor Preschool
The Forest School ethos originates from Scandinavia where the young children are taken on walks through the forest following an imaginary character. Along the way they explore and investigate, take risks and learn together in the great outdoors.
Activities are varied and linked both to the curriculum and the season in which they take place. Nature is at the heart of all of that we do and children will, over time, learn about the world around them.
Sessions focus on aspects of holistic development. The teacher is less a person of authority and more a facilitator, mentor and experienced companion. Children are allowed to choose the direction they take, discover, discuss and develop without the constraints of a table and chair. As they learn to respect this freedom they will learn about themselves, learn about others, and learn to be resilient.
We are open 50 weeks a year, 7.30am-5.30pm and offer full time and term time contracts. We are based at Greenhead House Farm in Oughtibridge, S35 0HN.
We take children from their 2nd birthday.
We accept funded hours 9am-4pm or 7.30-5.30pm, term time only (blocks of 7 or 10hrs). You can also add on wrap round care to the 7hr day, breakfast club 7.30am-9am or 8-9am and tea club 4pm-5pm or 4-5.30pm session at our current rate. We have a Forest Schhol Fee for a funded session.
We have an optional admin fee of £65 which includes your outdoor suit, settling in sessions and online learning journal.
We have a wooden hut with a log burner to keep us warm, plenty of blankets, hammocks and beds for if anyone needs a nap. Around the woodland there are different areas such as the mud kitchen, bird watching area, fairy, a stage, a pond and lots of loose parts play to engage the children. We also do campfire cooking everyday.
