Overview
The perinatal period, which includes pregnancy and postnatal (baby 1) is a time of increased vulnerability for birthing people and the impact of untreated can have a significant impact upon babies and families. This window also provides an opportunity for change with increased contact with a range of health professionals. Early identification is critical and therefore it is important that health professionals are aware of red flags and how to sign post to appropriate services. This training is aimed to support those working across the birthing pathway.
Aims and Objectives
• To understand the importance of perinatal mental health
• Understand the perinatal frame of mind with an emphasis upon the need for sensitive interactions
• To identify the red flags that require further support
• How to access appropriate services and understand what support is offered across the pathway
• Understand the range of presenting health difficulties both their prevalence and aetiology
• Hear the stories of those who have lived experience of challenges in the perinatal period
• Have an awareness of the differing pharmacological and psychological interventions
• Best practice guidance in supporting during the perinatal period
