Be aware of inhaler and spacer devices and how to use and care for them correctly.
Recognise signs of poorly controlled asthma and be able to escalate concerns appropriately.
Recognise an asthma attack and know what to do in response.
Understand how poor medication adherence, smoking/second-hand smoke exposure, poor indoor air quality and obesity affect asthma and support people appropriately.
Understand how environmental factors including air pollution, food and seasonal allergens impact asthma.
Be able to have supportive conversations with the families of children with asthma signposting them to additional resources where appropriate.
Recognise that poor asthma control may be a warning sign for safeguarding and gather facts in a non-confrontational manner and react to safeguarding concerns.
