Safety Sensors
It is important that we stay safe in our homes, and there are a number of safety sensors which can help. These sensors raise an alarm inside the home.
These include:
- Smoke Alarm: Smoke alarms sense particles in the air which may indicate the presence of a fire.
- Carbon Monoxide Sensor: Carbon Monoxide detectors detect the presence of carbon monoxide in the property.
- Heat Sensor: Heat sensors monitor if the temperature in the home goes over or below a set limit, or if it goes up too quickly in a short space of time.
Further advice and guidance regarding safety at home can be found on the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue website:
SY Fire and Rescue: Safety Advice.
If you think you are at particular risk of fire you can request a safety check visit from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue:

Benefits
These safety alarms can give you early warning either by detecting smoke or heat, giving you vital extra seconds to escape or take appropriate action.
Carbon Monoxide detectors, particularly, provide reassurance as the gas is colourless and odourless for humans.
Things to Consider
Ensure every alarm/detector is fitted in the appropriate part of the property – follow manufacturer’s instructions.
Safety alarms/detectors must be checked regularly to work effectively.
Smoke alarms may sometime be triggered by dust particles.
