Stair Adaptations
Banister Rails
Banister rails/ stair rails are designed to enable people go up and down stairs safely. Stair rails are fitted for people who lack strength in their legs or people who struggle to maintain balance without support.
These can be fixed on either side or both sides of the stairs depending on the user’s level of needs.
Ensure the walls are suitable for banister rails before considering having banister rails fixed.
Stair Lift
A stair lift is a mechanical chair designed to transfer people up and down the stairs while sitting.
Most stair lifts have push button and remote control functions which can allow carers to control the stairlift if needed. They are particularly useful for people who are no longer able to walk up and down the stairs. However, there are several things to consider such as:
Whether the user would physically or cognitively struggle to operate it.
Whether it would affect other household members who may have to walk up and down the stairs.
Weight limit of the stair lift.
It is also crucial to have your property surveyed for feasibility. Most providers would provide survey offers.

Through-floor Lifts
These are designed as internal lifts to go vertically through the ceiling of the ground floor.
This is an effective alternative when other lower-level solutions are not feasible.
It is important to have your property surveyed for feasibility.
