Support in your local community

Your local People Keeping Well Dementia partnership runs Dementia groups tailored to the needs of people in the area, including for people with Dementia from black and minoritised ethnic communities. They also have staff and volunteers who speak a variety of languages. There are also culturally appropriate groups for men only or for women only.

Person-centred culturally appropriate dementia care, guidance and support, particularly for those of African and African Caribbean descent.

Firvale Community Hub – Memory Café

The weekly memory café at Firvale Community Hub is open to those living with memory issues and their families/carers.  Join in with arts, crafts and group games – a great way to socialise and help mental wellbeing.  Referrals from BAME communities are encouraged.  Tea, coffee and cake available.

Sheffield Dementia videos in Urdu and Arabic

If you speak Urdu or Arabic you may find it helpful to watch these short videos, which were filmed in Sheffield. They answer questions such as ‘What are the signs of Dementia?’, ‘Why should I get diagnosed with Dementia?’, ‘How can I help someone in my family with Dementia?’ and ‘Am I a Dementia carer?’.

Admiral Nurse clinics for Black, African and Caribbean communities

Dementia UK’s Black, African and Caribbean Communities Admiral Nurse clinics offer videocall and telephone appointments with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse for people from Black, African and Caribbean communities who are living with dementia, and their families. This is an opportunity to seek free expert, confidential, culturally sensitive dementia support and advice.

The Dementia Wellbeing Service in Bristol has produced a series of useful films explaining what Dementia is in a variety of different languages, dispelling misconceptions and providing accurate facts about dementia for different cultures and backgrounds.
