Working with advocates for children and young people with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

What is an advocate?

An advocate is someone who can help you express your views and wishes, and help you stand up for your rights.

5 cartoon people of different ethnic origin, one is in a wheelchair.

It can be difficult for children, young people and their families to tell us their feelings and views.  Particularly as part of a statutory process.

In these situations the role of an advocate can be important.  This is so the views of children, young people and their families are heard and acknowledged.

We recognise the need for a policy.  This is to manage communication for those who have an advocate to act on their behalf.
