Buying a home
If you need help to buy a home it may be worth looking at the various schemes which can make home ownership more affordable. Information about these affordable housing schemes is provided by the Government: All schemes - Own Your Home.
One of the most popular schemes to help you buy your home is Shared Ownership.
Shared Ownership is where you buy a share of a property and rent the rest of it. This can sometimes be cheaper than renting from a private landlord. Shared Ownership does not mean you have to share your home with other people, unless you want to.
If you have a long-term disability, the Home Ownership for People with Long-Term Disabilities (HOLD) scheme in England could help you buy a home for sale on a shared ownership basis.
Properties available for shared ownership are often advertised on sites like Rightmove, Zoopla and the Help to Buy website covering the North of England, which also advertises properties available through some of the Government’s other affordable housing schemes.
