Planning your Post-16 Journey: A Guide for Young People

Introduction to the Post-16 Guide for Young People

Choosing what to do after Year 11 can be exciting, but it can also feel confusing. You don’t have to decide alone—there’s lots of help to guide you.

Sheffield City Council made this guide to help young people choose the best next step after Year 11. It’s for students working from Pre-Entry Level up to Level 2 as they move into Post-16 learning. You might find it helpful to go through this guide with a parent, carer, teacher, or careers adviser.

Exploring your options can help you feel more motivated, clear, and confident. It’s the first step toward your success next year and beyond.

Please note, this guide was correct when it was published in February 2025 for the 2025-26 academic year. For the latest offer from a provider, please contact them directly.

Who is the guide for?

This online guide is for young people with special educational needs or disabilities.  Parents, carers and professionals will also find it helpful.
